Hey all im replacing my blown 89 inline 115 with an 82 inline powerhead and i have noticed that on the electronics beside the top spark plug the 89 has 3 wires mounted to the back plate with one being inside around the plug where the 82 does not have. Also the 89 has a small hose coming out of the rear under the 4th plug and the 82 only has a stud with no hose. All else looks about the same except the choke on the 89 controls an enricher vs the carbs on the 82 having the shutters and im not sure i can convert those but i think the newer controlls will still operate the shutters.

The wires from the head (actually the waterjacket cover) may be an idle stabilizer. I would leave it disconnected for now until you find out what it is an how to connect it. The older motors didn't have it.

The hose from the head is for the telltale? A lot of them were between 2nd and third spark plug, if I remember correctly. The powerhead should bolt up w/o issue. The choke button will operate the enricheners.

Ok if the 82 dont have the telltale hose whats it for on the 89? Since it has a stud cover on the 82 can i change it out with the 89's and it operate? Water jacket cover is the cover that all the plugs are in? Not the opposite side plate cover?

I think if the hose is a small one it would be to a pressure gauge on the drivers console. When you get ready to wire it up, the enricher wire will work for the choke shutters. The bolting up should be the same. The only thing that I had to change on my was the front bracket that has the stabilizer and trim/tilt solenoids on it. Take it nice and slow, there are allot of little things to remember to put back together on a project like this.

all Mercs have a telltale. Some are in a different spots on the water jacket cover (over the head). if you don't have an elbow for the telltale, find the highest tapped port on the waterjacket cover and install a thread to hose barb, 90* elbow and stick the telltale hose onto it.

The port side of the motor (large plate) is the exhaust cover. The starboard side of the motor has the three transfer port covers.
