I just got my motor and started to work on it. I am changing all the hoses and clamps. They all look old and dry. My question is that the control valve is disconnected and there is no aspirator just the hose pointing outside the block. Should I get all the parts and hook this all back up?<br /><br />I am going to take the fuel pump off and put the oms back on Can I put the oil tank in the center console? How far away from the motor is too far?<br /><br />Does anyone have the part number for the tilt switch on the lower engine cover mine broke during shippment and I cannot find it on ishopmarine?

Just picked up a T&T switch yesterday. If your cowling has the slightly tapered recess where the switch goes then try 585146. If yours doesn't have a recess where the switch goes it takes another switch and I don't have that number.

look at the Tstat covers and describe them, there was a kit to update the control that eliminated the water control valve and replumbed the Tstat hoses. if the updated parts are not installed you will either have to update it to the mid nineties style or buy all the missing parts for yours.

Looking at the t stats there is a hose that connects them and one that is blocked off from the starboard hose. That one is supposed to go to the control valve.<br /><br />I bought the hoses,aspirator, adaptor, and the control valve is on the throttle shaft already, so I will hook it all up. <br /><br />I also read in the factory manual that the hose on the oil tank can be replaced with a 25' one to get the tank in my console<br /><br />Also I just want to know what the aspirator and control valve was for?

Be careful when messing around with that water system. You can use the updated version like Rodbolt says but if you have the newer type vernatherms that dont require the control valve you dont want to add it.

Dhadley could you explain a little more. I just went on ishop marine and ordered all the parts assosiated with the control valve and the thermostats. I do not want to hurt anything.<br /><br />The preivous owner just pluged all the hoses to the powerhead. The thermostat housings are connected by a hose and the hose on the starboard side that went to the valve now just goes overboard.<br /><br />It does not look like a tech did it.The hoses are just pluged with bolts not plugs in the block.<br /><br />There is no aspirator either do I need to install it?

Not trying to hijack the thread, but would like a little more info on the t-stat change. Was there a service bulletin that required this change? My 90' 120 still has the control valve.

If I were going to do it I would convert it to the 1993 style. You'll need those caps, springs and the two regular gaskets, not the rubber "screw on" deal like on motors with the valve.<br /><br />The cap and springs are a set. Thats how the pressure is established. Do not use the caps you have now.<br /><br />You can use the aspirator if you like. It helps if the pan gets water in it from either a low mounting or if the shift shaft seal leaks.<br /><br />At any rate I'd convert it to either the valve style or the 93 & newer style. I wouldn't mix the two. I like the newer style because it really cleans up the look.

I am with Dhadley<br /> the 93 up style has better pressure control and eliminates fome water leakage points.<br /> however like Dhadley says you cannot mix the two.<br /> I do believe there is a bulliten about the conversion someplace. the water control valve uses water presure to hold the tstats on the seats at low speeds forcing the cooling water to go through the tstat, the later style uses spring pressure to achieve the ame results. at hihger speeds the water presure is reduced to the diaphrams allowing the tstat to move off its seat to allow more cooling water. the newer style ues spring pressure and is more reliable and consistant.

Does someone have the service procedure and part numbers for the newer system Ishop marine shows f and s suffix motors for the 93 and different part numbers for both. I will change to the 93 as it does look a bunch simpler

Just use the "S" stuff. That way you use your existing vernatherm and just unscrew the rubber diaphram.

I took off the covers and they just had the hoses blocked so I guess that this was like no thermostats cause the slightest water pressure would unseat them<br /><br /><br />Are the starboard and port thermostat covers the same? Ishopmarine only lists the starboard cover?

I bought the thermostat covers and springs for the 93 and put it all on. I would recommend this swap to anyone with this model looper it really cleans up under the hood and looks so much less complicated than before. Also as joe said it eliminates more than a couple of potential water leaks.<br /><br />Not to pricey either
