I bought this engine four years ago. Former owner had painted trim tab. As it is used in SW, I removed the paint. After @100 hours use the trim tab shows no corrosion, but the square zink shows a lot of corrosion. Paint is bubbling in a couple of spots on lower unit. Could this be electrolysis? Aren't all trim tabs supposed to "sacrifice" to protect the lower unit?

Livebaiter

Not on this engine, you should also insure that the water pickup hole in the trim tab is clear.

If your zincs are 1/3 or more used up ,you'll need to replace them. There are also optional additional zincs available for your engines lower unit.

Thanks for the replies! Just examined the trim tab, and found the water pick-up hole. It was partially blocked. Guess I'll go to the aftermarket manual and search for information on optional zinks. Any ideas for other sources for information on ad-on zinks?

livebaiter
