After refilling the LU with oil a few week ago I found the classic milky oil again after replacing the drain/fill plug gaskets. Im thinking the prop shaft seal may have my girlfriends fishing line in it still..It seems changing these seals requires specialty tools so im leaning on taking it to the shop but I wanted to know what is involved in removing the lower unit...as it would be easier taking it in opposed to my entire outboard.

The best way to find a leak is pressure test it.
First, if you want to do this yourself...you need a manual.

No doubt if I do tackle this I will buy a manual, even if its ONLY to remove the Lu to take it to the shop. Just tryin to get a feel for it ahead of time ya know.

Fill out the profile. You might be close to someone who can help.
Always include serial# and model and HP.
It's easy to take the unit off. It's also easy to change the seals, with the right tools.
But the dealer can diagnose if it's the shaft seal or the drive shaft seal under the pump.
The also will make sure the unit is re-installed right.
Change the impeller while it's apart.Good luck,J
