I had my boat our for the second time this season yesterday. Started right up and idled out fine but when I opened her up she was very sluggish, only reaching 23 mph top speed (I can usually get 33-34). After dropping the crab traps and relaxing for an hour or so I started it up and it ran perfectly for the rest of the day. It ran fine the last I had it out.
Stator and rectifier were replaced last year, carbs rebuilt 2 years ago, new tanks and lines 2 years ago.
A mechanic friend suggested that the carbs might be gummed up since I didn't drain the bowls when I put it away last fall. I ran fuel stabilizer into it and fogged the motor etc.
Do gummed carbs sound right?

Thanks
