89 80 hp Mercury outboard

The motor turns over 7/8 of a turn in both directions if I remove the head will I be able to see the problem

There is no cylinder head on that motor..

I took the lower unit off it's not locked I took that exhaust plate off no luck there what should I do next lost and stuck

you have taken the exhaust covers off the side of the motor?----What do pistons / rings look like ?

Everything looked ok nothing broke or cracked rotated the motor by hand and checked all three
