89 85 hp fuel issue

I have done all regular maintaince....carbs adjusted/cleaned,decarbed 2x....Cant figure out problem.... When it is in the water and not running, fuel leaks into water from exhaust port. Engine runs great but but i cant stop this leak.....I do realize that Force engine are very dirty but this is a sizable amount of fuel. It only leaks when it is water and not out....What could it be???? Any help would be great.... thanks

Fuel recirculation system screens dirty, Lower exhaust gasket shot or week ignition. Also do a couple of decarbs.

I have the Seloc manual and only breifly talks about the recirculation system. How can it be cleaned and where is it? Fuel is only present when the moter is submerged and it must be coming from vents/prop/water intake on lower unit. Shop said ignition was great when it was in last.....Thanks for the help....

Item 35 HERE. This diagram is from one of the many models of 85HP from 1989. Fuel condenses on hot motor and is drained and recirulated for reburn. I hope this is the problem. If lower gasket is shot under powerhead this will also create unburned fuel to go down the motor leg and out the exhaust.

OK......Went to winterize it today and guess what I found......Water in lower unit... about 50/50 split.... I am now guessing that this could have been my "slick in the water? What seals could have caused this? I had the water pump replaced at the beginning of the season and mechanic said everything looked great? Is this something I should attempt to find myself or leave it to the pros? Thanks for the help....

could be any one of the seals. Lower unit would be a nice winter project for you . If it were me I would put the motor to sleep for the winter without the lower unit on. Call around and see if you can find a place to reseal it for you. Because it is off season and there is no pressure you might be able to get a good deal. If you do it yourself the seal kit is about 30 bucks. The worst part is getting the bearing cage off. The procedure is pretty straight forward. Might not hurt to have a pressure test done on it first. It would suck to have a 200 dollar reseal kit done when the drain plug gasket is leaking. Most common leaks are at the drive shaft seal, prop shaft seal and the drain and vent plug gaskets.
