So I'm looking at this boat tomorrow. Other than checking the floor, transom and usual suspects is there something I should know about it? It has a Ford 2.3liter engine and an Omc outdrive. Ad says the head and carb have been replaced.

Re: '89 Bayliner Capri?

i just got my bayliner not to long ago its also a 89 with the 2.3 and omc outdrive. when i got it had to wait a week because the guy had it in the shop getting the exhuast manifold replaced. i spoke with the guy doing the work on it and he said the motor was fine now he even ran it for about an hour an said there was no problems what so ever. so i go ahead and buy it. ive now had to replace the bilge blower do to it not working at ALL:eek:....(something i figured the mechanic would have noticed being its an I/O guess he jus didnt even run it when he started it:eek:) then checked the oil and it was more gas than oil. so now had to buy a new fuel pump (from the same mechanic that worked on it the first time, got it on today and comes to find out the little arm thing that goes into the motor to pump the gas sorry i dont know wat its called is not long enough and doesnt get any contact) i now have to bring it back to get another one which it took him almost two weeks jus to get this one to me. be sure and get a test ride first and check EVERYTHING before you buy it

also when i spoke to the owner on the fone he said the interior was fine comes to find out there is no interior padding at all jus some plywood with carpet on it and the seats are the 30 dollar ones from walmart jus like the ones i have in my johnboat but it was a pretty cheap buy so i took it

i guess you get what you pay for

I must be very thankful, The guy I bought our boat from took great care of it.
Look to see if you could have a cracked block, check the whole engine over thoroughly, Its not always the condition of the interior, I have put down new carpet, reupholstered, and need new sound system, Its the engine that matters most!!! I don't care how beautiful the boat is, you don't need an expensive lawn ornament, you need a boat with a sound engine, All I needed to do was a tune up and filters, plus he took me out and we put her in and showed me how to best operate her (plane her out) the full works, we paid $3,500 for her and have never regretted it. have had her 4 yrs. now and she still runs great!

Re: '89 Bayliner Capri?

I've had an 89 Bayliner for the last 10 years it's been a great boat. It has the 125 Force, never had a problem, and I play in the sound as much as in fresh water. Just have to flush and wash it every time it comes out. Selling it know, just bought a 2004 Maxum. Wohoo. But it's been a very fun boat.

Sounds like its time for you to find a new mechanic!! for you to bring it in all the time and he is missing all the other things that need fixing too:confused:, Ya its time to find a new mechanic or DIYS, the "Mercruiser,OMC and other inboard and outdrives" forum is really informative. and will tell you exactly what you need to do. They are a great help to me!! some one there will be more knowledgeable for your needs, I am very familiar with my 4.3L with Alpha one. but they can help you more with your set up.>>>>>>>> Pat

I am sorry to hear about the other guys, Yes it can be very frusrating, have this new one check over every thing and tell him to fix every thing in one shot, so you can get back out there and boat the way it is intended, I hate boating worrying my self all day, I want to be out there feeling good that she is running the way she should be so I can enjoy myself!!

Starting to seem like it's a decent boat as long as it doesn't have the 2.3 liter OMC sterndrive. ..dang...
