I have a 1989 maxum bowrider. She's 16', open bow, and has a 50hp Force motor. I'm wondering if I can stick a bigger motor on her. If I can how big can it be? She only goes roughly 30mph tops with only 2 guys in it and I'd prefer to get a bit more speed out of it. Also would a 30hp Evinrude with more pitch on the prop somehow make it faster? I'd had a 21' Bayliner cuddie and swapped a bigger motor for a 30hp Evinrude with more prop pitch and it went faster, but I'm not sure the reasoning for it. Thanks for your help.

Re: '89 bowrider motor question

the reason the 30 was faster, is there was an obvious problem with the larger motor. you can go as high as the rateing plate on the boat states. the 50 force is about equivilant to a 40-45hp in other brands.

Welcome to iboats.
Did you do any troubleshooting on the "bigger slower" motor ??? and by the way, what was it ???
