89 evenrude 70hp Impeller installation

Hi I have an 89 evinrude 70hp. I bought a new impeller but I?m not sure how it is supposed to be installed. This impeller came with a black plastic wedge. The shaft also has a key way. I?m not sure if I am supposed to use both and could you tell me how the wedge is to be installed because once you slide the impeller over the shaft there is no room for the wedge. thanks

Just use the key, sounds like a multi use kit.
Some shafts have a flat spot in the shaft and take a small round pin instead of a key.
You have to slide the impeller down onto the key, be certain it won't slip once it is installed and just to be safe put some grease or oil on the impeller.

The function of the wedge or key is to lock the impeller on the driveshaft.
