89 Evinrude 110 V4 Spark Plug Problems

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone can help with spark plug problems. I have been using champion l82c and been fouling out after a month of use. I tried nkg plugs and they fouled out after a week of use. I am wondering if there is a different plug for this motor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do not believe that you have sparkplug problems ! ---Post the results of a compression test here.

You have the incorrect plug with that L82C. The most commonly used plug for that engine is a Champion QL77JC4. The QL82C is an optional plug for that engine. Try the QL77JC4's. Champions are the factory recommended brand. Stick with them.

The preferred plugs are QL77JC4. QL82C are also acceptable If that motor has VRO/OMS then the QL series plugs are required rather that the L series plugs

You dont say what NGK plugs you tried but BZ7HS-10 should be OK but not a BR series plug

However do a compression test and report the results as Racerone asks

Did a compression test today and all 4 cylinders came out to 95psi and held the compression. The nkg plug I've tried was b6hs. I was just following what the original plugs were in the boat, when I purchased it.

I would presume preferred gap is .030?

NGK plugs were never factory installed. .030 is the correct gap.

Got the plugs as stated above. Motor was a lot quieter and ran really smooth. It did die after I ran it full throttle. Is there an electric choke on the engine that could potentially flood it?

The choke is probably not the problem. Could be two problems: the fuel pump is weak and can't supply enough fuel to run at WOT for a long time. Usually when this happens, the engine slows and just returns to idle, then may rev up again when the fuel pump catches up. Not usually to have the engine just die out. Also, you could have a weak ignition component which fails when the engine heats up to WOT normal operating temps. A failed part could kill spark to the engine.
