89 Evinrude 200, Still working on the rough idle lean sneeze problem and found some issues that may help someone else. In looking at the operation of the linkage during movement of the throttle I noticed the timer base was not retarding all the way back to the screw on the left hand side of the engine, some melted goo had run down and was causing the timer base to stick and not return all the way. I cleaned that up and now the timer base moves freely. I also found the plastic tube with spring loaded tension that advances the timer base was gummed up and was not let the timer base return when the throttle was brought to neutral. The label on the carb silencer points to a screw as the timing adjuster, I?m confused, is the timing set at 18 btdc at idle. I was told it was set at WOT which would mean the stop screw on the right hand side would be adjusted in or out at WOT to adjust timing?? The screw on the left which the timer base rest against at idle had appeared to be backed out some. I put it in the water and run it at idle in gear and adjusted this screw to set idle at 600. Back to the big plastic adjuster, label says spark dwell adjustment, How is this adjusted?? Did the link and sync and in the process found a cracked fuel line tee, I could not see the crack but when the bulb was pumped it would leak. Replaced cam roller, was missing out clear roller. I ran it at the dock on the trailer and it seemed better, but was still rough idle. I hope all this detail will help someone else. If someone could help me with the dwell adjustment.
