I recently acquired an old Duracraft that has an 89 Evinrude 48hp SPL on it. I have a Seloc manual that covers the 90 model and newer. Is there enough difference that I would need a manual for the older motor? Are there any major differences in the pre 90 motors and the new motors I might need to look for?

Thanks

The 90's have the dreaded UFI ignition system, the 88 has the old good external power pack. It might even be some differences in the carbs. Double check with the parts list at Marineengine. Seloc manuals however is not the preferred one if doing major repairs, better to invest in the OEM.

Dump seloc manual in in a big can and burn it! Find an OEM for that series motor

I second what todd said and maybe throw some gas on it to make it burn quicker! Get the real service manual for your specific year and model if you plan to do any work on the motor yourself. Trust me, it is well worth it.

Hey guys, I believe you are right. I have always bought FSMs for my vehicles and been glad I did. I just ordered a FSM for my 48.
Thanks,
