Hello All -

My '89 Evinrude 88 SPL overheated last month when the water pump failed - previous owner had removed the warning buzzer... After replacing the water pump and head gaskets on each side, I now find that the engine is extremely difficult to turn over. Of course, it turns quite well when the plugs are pulled, as well as when the plug leads are disconnected. With everything connected properly however, the engine is very difficult to turn over, and fails to start (fires inconsistently, may run for 5 seconds every few attemps). Plenty of fuel. Appears to have good spark. The starter checks out fine. Coil resistance is fine. I seem to have some type of timing problem, but can't imagine what is causing it... Any ideas out there?

Thanks!
