I have a 1989 force 125 (1251x9b) I am not getting water to go threw the motor. I have replaced the impeller and gasket along with the T-stat and still have no water coming out the pee holes. there is air coming out when the motor is running but no water. When i had the lower unit apart I tried to flush it out with the hose just incase there was some kind of build up where the water pick up is (sand ect.) but didnt seem to be obstructed. When i took everything apart there didnt seem to be any abnormal wear on anything so im to my whits end on whats wrong. When i hooked it to the hose the second time i let it run alittle longer waiting for the water (the high temp buzzer came on) and i shut it off right away. !!!Please help!!!!
Thanks mike

Are you even getting a trickle out of the two holes on the back? If so, take it to the lake, muffs don't do anything for these motors, you really need to be in the water.

If you don?t even get a trickle then check your thermostat to see if it is wet after running? Don't run to long but take of the housing and see if it is wet. Post what you find.

Put it in the water. Then start it.It should have something comming out the two holes in the back and the pee hole.
If that doesn't work then drop the lower and remove the thermostat. Then flush the motor through the copper tube.
You sure that the impeller is in correct. The impeller lock/keyway might have slipped.J

Re: 89 force 125 !!need help with cooling!!

hey guys thanks for the suggestions im going to take it to the boat ramp in the next day or two to start it there, I think im going to try it with the t-stat in and bring the tools to remove it if i dont get any flow with it. I read on here in a different post about a very small hole in the water pump housing with the purpose of priming the water pump...whats your guys opinion on that I think they said the make sure it wasnt clogged with anything, when I took it apart (multiple times) I didnt notice the small hole they are talking about ( I wasnt really looking for it either though). Ill let ya know what the results of the putting it in the water at the boat ramp test gives me.
thanks for the help

Mike - What you have going on sounds exactly like what I have going on . I have replaced the themostat and complete water pump assembly and I still have no water pumping through my 85 hp force. If you figure out what is wrong with yours please tell me. Thanks

Mike ,these motors just don't seem to work well with muffs, next time try a garbage can or some type of plastic tote to submerge the lower foot in ,this will also take care of the flushing that you will need to do after having it in salt water. Hope this helps ,keep us posted

Tweek the muff ears so they clamp tighter and dead center the muff outlet on the motor intake, and turn up the pressure. water will spray all around but you need the volume.

Count me in on this problem too. I do have it in a tank although it just barely keeps water above the cavitation plate, especially after it has started. My alarm goes off quickly. From what I'm reading, is it possible that the tank water becomes hot from the exhaust so that cool water is not being re-circulated but rather we're getting the hot water that was just expelled. I can feel hot/warm water blowing out the snout. The pressure is spilling the extra water I need out of the tub also. As soon as it stops raining, I've decided to put the hose muffs on as well as in the tank. That way I'm getting a hard stream of cold water and maintaining the depth (I hope) of the tank water. I appreciate the info about the 2 holes in the mid-leg as exhaust while cranking since I see the pressure needed to blow out the snout, already submerged. That makes sense now after seeing the initial exhaust out where I was hoping to see water.
I'll post after this test. Hearing that the lake made a difference was encouraging. BTW, my buzzer is more like a chime. Very high pitched tone and it comes from under the dash or either the control. I have a black box with a button too, its a circuit breaker. Sorry, I didn't see your video so its probably a whole nother animal. If anybody knows it would be John from Md. so I can't add anything to his knowledge. I just thank the lord he's on this board and willing to help so much. Otherwise, I'd hate Force motors too. But I think we'll all know our motors better than anybody on the water just from all the troubleshooting. I've had a few boats but never maintained them half as well. I just took them for granted. I also have the towing Insurance though.

The hose from the house connected to the muffs will not always get enough water to the motor.Use a bucket/barrel.Try taping the muffs to the unit. The hose supplies 3-5 gal a min.The lake about a gazillion as soon as you put it in.J
