I recently purchased a 89 bayliner w/125 force model 1251X9B, the problems are as follows:it has 2 pisser holes, water only comes out of 1, (2) when i took it out on the water it ran at 4,400 rpm after about 2 minutes it cut down to 2,200 rpm and stayed there. after shutting it down and cooling we was heading in and it did the same thing, can anyone help me figure this thing out?

Re: 89' force 125 rpm cutdown after warming up

I have an 88 Force 125HP model number 1251x8c and it seemed to do the same thing, and the problem ended up being the battery on mine. Try checking or even replacing the battery, mine was a brand new battery that went bad and made the RPM's die.

The pisser should come out of both holes. I have just taken that piece off, you can pull the outside leg cover off by removing about 6 bolts I believe. Then you can get to a clamp on the inside that allows the exhaust and water to pass through and out that hole. There may be something stuck in this or some type of blockage. Its worth a try looking at it.

On my engine water comes out of the pisser pretty good but the majority of the water drains out the exhaust above the prop.

Hope this helps,
Bryan Cox

Sharkfisher,
I lived in Hinesville for 4 years while stationed at Stewart. I run a 150 Force on a 89 Arriva. I had a similar problem that ended up being a stator assembly. The battery could also be the cause. You mentioned you recently purchased the boat. Has the motor been serviced or decarbed recently?

Pissing out of one hole could most likely be a blockage (mud daubers really love uncovered pee holes in boat motors down there) or a weak impeller. Like Bryan said, my pee hole puts out more a a strong spray vice a stream of water. It has a new impeller in it also.

I still go down there every now and then. I know there are some pics in post Fish and Game Office with some guys showing off some nice big sharks. wouldnt be you would it?

Good Luck
Deerdog

Hey, Bryan,
Ever go up to Kerr Lake? It is also called Buggs Island Lake? Just curious since I see you are from Raleigh. Was born and raise on that lake and that is where my boat is now. My folks still live ont he lake.

Deerdog

I normally go to falls, but have been to Kerr a long time ago. I would like to go back up there, since it is much nicer and bigger than falls, but its about 45mins to an hour drive, so I havent made it up there yet.

Bryan

I will try pulling the lower unit off and see if anything is clogged, a freind said that it could be trying to shut down from heat build up. i dont know? im fairly new at servicing these things, and how can i check the stator to see if it is bad. when i was on the water, i pulled the cover off andthrottled the spark advance(i guess it what it is called. and the engine reved up fine.without having to move the throttle.but how will i know if that is the problem? but i will run a few checks. the battery was new and just off the charger.

Shark Fisher,
First I would recommend you pick yourself a repair manual. Most good boat dealers will have them. I would bet that place (they sell Prolines and some other makes) on 95 as soon as you exit 144; or that place on Abercorn (near Savannah Mall) would have one.

If you do find blockage and the spray is still weak You may want to change the impeller. It isnt really that hard on the Force. Dont be fooled if the impeller looks okay (it has all of its paddles) as the paddles may be weak - which would be the cause of the weak spray out of your pee holes.

As for decarbing. The most popular form is a spray that you spray into the carbs. I use it once per year. In addition I also run Quick Kleen once per month in the summer (this comes in a bottle and you mix it an ounce per 6 gallons of gas). Between these two actions I keep the ole Force running pretty clean. Would recommend you do this also. Force motors are older tech but do carb up as they dont burn as clean (although that is debateable) and the newer motors. If the motor hasnt been decarbed dont be surprised if it smookes like a tar kettle.

As far as the stator test. Im not familiar with a test you can do. Maybe some of the smart guys can point you in the right path. I had to replace one last year as a result of intermittent electrical problems. One minute it would run great - and would run like that for an hour. Then go back out and it ran like s--t. It would cut out bog down, pick back up, stall down, miss......and then as I would threaten to take it out of the water....it would behave. An hour later (or the next time we went out) it would run great. It drove me nuts.

Best of luck to you
Deerdog

Bryan,
Looks like the water is back up in Falls Lake now. It looked very low this winter as did Kerr. Kerr is a blast. I pretty much grew up on the lake. I guess the biggest problem up there now are the asshole jet skiers - well the ones with no sense as not all of them are assholes. They did start cracking down on them last year though and hope it will continue.

Deerdog
