Re: 89 Force 50 hp Copper Water Tube

You can put the copper pipe back up in place. There is a rubber oring that should be holding it. IF it continues to just fall out, the powerhead must be removed and the oring replaced.
If you just put the pipe in the case and push it up in place, you will miss the oring.
Cameo from TMD
Without a doubt, TMD nailed it. In theory, there is no way to re-seat the copper tube "properly" without removing the powerhead. Now the good news.....I took to shop 60 days ago (busy time of year here for fishing, so I didnt want to pay the higer $ as my fishing is just now starting). Quoted me 700.00 for 7 hours of labor. Knowing the powerhead had to come out..7 hours seems MORE than reasonable compared to the new Honda I had been seen drooling on by the wife just a few days prior.
Got boat back last night, and to my disbelief, and actually somewhat happiness....It is fixed beyond what I was expecting. He re-seated properly, then permatexed the living cr@p out of it so it hopefully wont pull out next impellor change, and greased the lower portion of tube before inserting in water pump.
I can officially tell you, for the first time since I bought the boat in February....these motors should be kicking a lot of water out the 2 pee holes...not just a little spray...its a spray with a lot of mass. When I got it, very little water coming out, but a small spray was always present. Why??? the copper tube wasn't seated in the powerhead. This sure makes my 125/126 compression motor a worthy of 700.00 investment/gamble. Of course before I brought to him I threw a new water pump on it, resealed the lower end, rebuilt the carb and fuel pump.
Best of all.....during the down time.....searching ebay for any additional troubleshooting parts I could use in the future. I came across a lower end that I normally see go fo 3-400 on ebay quite regularily. got it for 270.00....but thats not all I got for 270.00... I got the entire ignition package except: key, switch, starter and flywheel....ya, i even got the original harness. its all sweet!
Thanks for the help TMD!
Now, if you want my .02 on what I would do next time (if I didnt plan on getting a new motor within 5 years).... I would heli-coil the powerhead and slide a union over the copper tube and thread it in the power head. Not gonna come out that way!
And ALWAYS grease the lower portion of the water tube WHENEVER you remove it from water pump!!
Great time to change upper motor mounts too.
