:confused:I have a 89 force 85. We took it out yesterday and it starts right up,but after running it for awhile it loses power and just shuts down, almost like it runs out of gas, but if we sit there for a minute it starts right back up.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Does the fuel bulb get sucked in? If so you have a blockage at the fuel intake in your tank. Check for debris or a clogged screen in the fuel tank. Definately sounds like a fuel problem.

Try this test. Start it up and run it until it shuts off. Start it up again and slowly pump the primer bulb. Can you keep it running this way?

If the answer is yes, the check valves in the fuel pump housing are sticking. They cost about $5 each and there are three of them. Two are easy to replace the 3rd requires a puller or Dremel tool.

One other very simple possibilty, did you remember to open the vent on your tank?

If that doesn't work check to see if all the carb bowls are filling at the same rate as you may have something clogging the flow.
A quick way to check is to have someone drive the boat and as it starts to lose power spay some WD 40 in each carb. If you regain power by spraying the WD in one of the carb it is most likely the culprit ans need ssome attention.
