'89 force 856a9a 85hp wont idle

Hi all,new here...all i did was change the plugs..now overrevs minute it fires and wont return to idle...any ideas welcome,before i do anything else...was hard starting before and seemed kinda laggy at top end too,thats why i changed plugs...they were a little carboned but not bad.motor has been sitting for about a yr...maybe need to clean carbs.took fuel pump apart and diagphram is kinda stiff,so gonna replace it anyways.thanks in advance.

Check that the link from the tower to the trigger nose is not broken. Check that the trigger moves freely. Check that the control cables and shift linkage is moving freely. Check that the carb butterflies are not stuck open.

all that seems good....i didnt touch the throttle control after i replaced the plugs....just hit choke and started immediatley reved up...tach not working ,but was definatly above 3 grand on the revs....shut off immediatly,tried wiggling controls and same thing when started....stopped there...didnt want to hurt powerhead....removed feul pump today and diaphram is pretty stiff...thought maybe lean run....rebiulding fuel pump....

ordered my fuel pump parts today,will pick them up tomorrow and reinstall it.

got the fuel pump rebuilt and went thru the links on the carb ,runs and idles now..just have to get it on the water now and do the final adjustments....still seeing a slight bit of gas comming out front of carbs,but very little....may still have to adjust floats,will see how it runs on the water first....

oh ya...and also found that throttle butterfly on bottom carb was stuck half open,somehow...loosened screwa on connector plate and it closed,did all the readjustments and all works good now...
