Hi Guys,
I have an 89 Johnson 110 V4 that has been running great, and I love it for what it is, but i broke down last time out.
I was towing a friend in a tube, and running the motor hard out of the hole, and the transmission slipped out of gear. RPM went through the roof, and I shut it douwn as fast as I could.
The moter suffered no harm, but the transmission will not engage now either forward or reverse. There was no gear noise, or any in dication that anything broke other than that it will not work!
I have only had a lower unit apart once before almost 20 years ago on an ancient Evinrude, so I am trying to prepare before I dive in.
The drive shaft is in tact through the water pump, because I am still pumping waster through the motor, and the prop shaft spins freely with no interference at all.
I am thinking broken shift linkage, broken shifter, or sheared pin between the clutch dog and the shift shaft.
Do any of you guys have experience with a similar problem?
Any ideas of what I may have broken?
Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks, Josh
