89 Johnson 20 HP

New member to the forum. I have bought several things here over the years but have never been to the forum..

But Now I have a Question..


I am looking to buy this motor. 89 Johnson 20 HP J20CRCEM

Where can I get specs/info for this engine? Not just parts Schematics.
weight, rpms, etc...

where can I find info like where and how to adjust the idle RPMs?

I am new to boat motors and have been looking for one for a 16ft fishing boat I have.

brief on the motor..

I started it and it ran doggie a bit to start but I got it to idle pretty smooth without missing too much..

Went into gears without any problems..

I checked the gear oil it was dark but had a green hue to it still..

I know I need to give a once over but what should I consider before I commit to buying it.

any help would be much appriciated.. Or just a kick in the right direction.

Just require the seller to supply an OEM Service Manual, creature. Or, you could buy one from kencook.com and get the seller to pay for it.

I have an old Johnson seahorse and after some info on it the model number is 20273A think it is 20hp.
