89 Johnson 40hp

Hey guys. I'm thinking about buying a 89 johnson 40 hp on craigslist. It appears to be in pretty good shape. I have quite a bit of experience with 35hp Johnsons. I own 2 1979 35s but I was wondering if 89 was a good year for the 40s? Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated!! Thx

power pack under flywheel, not the best place.

I wouldn't want it due to the ignition system on it. JMO and experience.

If it's a good deal i wouldn't hesitate it's a good motor. The ignition is problematic but CDI electronics makes a conversion kit to remove the ignition from under the flywheel.

I got mine for $140 new. And the factory module was $132.00
