89 Johnson 60hp won't start

Hey everyone, thank you for taking the time to read my post. I just purchased my first fishing boat, 17' 1989 Tracker Marine. I was told that the oil injection system has been bypassed so I need to run pre-mix 50:1.

Going into the purchase I did know that the engine wouldn't start. The previous owner was using the boat last year but when they went to start it this spring it would not start.

My first question is about the vacuum line/fuel line routing. I see there are a few lines from the carburetors that are disconnected and I am hoping that is why it won't start. I am just not sure where these lines are supposed to be connected. Let me know if anyone can help with where and how these should be ran?

If this motor has a solenoid primer system should have 1line to each carb the smallest line located on top of carb Primer located on left side of motor. Will have 1 hose between carbs located middle of carb. Line to each carb just above fuel bowl. These comes from main fuel line. Line coming out of engine block is a vacuum line for vro oil system this should be blocked if deleted. Hope this helps

Check out some marine parts dealers listed on line. Look at the part drawings for intake manifolds. Your get a idea how the fuel lines are installed. Model of outboard will be on the leg usually on the left under the engine. Also check youtube

OK, got it. I will post a few more pics and also check out intake manifold drawings online to see if I can see how those lines are routed. I did take a photo of the model of the motor also. See attached.

If you are going to keep the rig for awhile, think about getting a service manual, check on eBay there run around 30 to 40 dollars

Those are NOT vacuum lines.-----Are you pushing the key in WHILE cranking it over ?----Is there spark on the 3 leads ?-------Is the battery fully charged and load tested ?

Someone has replaced the fuel tee at carbs with aotomotive vacuum type....replace with OEM before using. The walls are thin and fuel will soften and dissolve them, plus your missing primer

I just dug in a little more today. There is a nipple on the top of each carb that those small lines are connected to. They are all disconnected in some form, they have tee's seemingly connecting them all together. Are those fuel lines for the carbs?

Are they meant to all be connected together?

They are fuel lines.----These are connected to the electric PRIMER VALVE.----The thingy with the red lever.------When you push the key in while cranking the valve opens.-----This action puts fuel directly into the intake manifold.----This is for near instant starting.-----A wonderful device that works very well.

Ok I'll have to look at that. Those lines are definitely not connected to the primer valve now. They are or were just connected to each other I think.

The large nipple on the primer is for fuel at pressure from the fuel pump.----The primer valve has 2 small nipples.----One hose connect to one and goes to one carburetor nipple.-----The hose to other nipple has a TEE and goes to 2 carburetors.----The order and which carburetor does not matter.

Thank you! I will grab some fuel line and see about getting this all re-hooked this way.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. I have the lines all re-hooked up and I am sure that was the issue before. When I took off the bottom line on the primer valve the nipple just fell off. So now I will be searching for a rebuild or replacement for that. Once I get that changed I will be attempting to fire it up again.

I also see them on Ebay. I just don't want to get one that is junk and will leak or break easily. Any advice as to which one to get?
