89 johnson TJ40ELCEC tell tale relocate?

Hello All, First Post but insidious Lurker here!
I'm currently working on my neighbors pontoon with the 40hp Johnson 2 cylinder.
The VRO has been disabled, and the diaphragm for the fuel pump side disintergrated pumping rubber particals throught the carbs.
I noticed that the Water Pressure Gauge tap was on the top of the exhaust plate,and the Tell Tale tap was on the
Bottom ? ( Looked like the factory location.) Is there any benefit to moveing it to the top like the Service Builletin for the 60Hp and up motors ? This is on a Pontoon Boat that receives little care! Thanks for the Replies

With the tell-tale on top of the block it will eliminate any air pockets that might form in the block that could cause hot spots. You can "T" it off of the pressure guage line and block off the lower port if you want to.
