`89 johnson warning buzzer not working.

I know that the buzzer doesn't work. I have 12V on the purple wire and 6 V on the tan and when I ground the tan wire at the buzzer there is no sound. I also am not sure if the temp switches are working. I checked continuity all the way to the tan wire coming out of the harness that I assume goes to the VRO tank and the VRO pump. I do not have continuity from the red plug to the tan wires going to the sensors. I see in the wiring diagram that there is a diode somewhere. I can not find it. I trie the diode check mode on my mete between the harness and the tan wires one at a time in both directions and it still seems open somewhere.

Also how do you remove the temp sensors.I want to test them in oil as described in the manual. It is plastic and when I put a wrench on it it seems to bend so I just left it for now. I would like to make sure the warning system works before I put it the water and take it for a ride.

Sounds (no pun intended) like you have a bad warning horn to start with.

Are you saying you pull the tan wire from the buzzer and ground it, if so that's wrong. Disconnect the temperature switches and ground the side that goes into the power pack to test the buzzer and alarm system wiring.

If I have 12V at the purple wire on the buzzer, the black is grounded, and I disconnect the tan wire at the buzzer and take jumper from ground to the terminal that the tan wire was attached to the buzzer should sound right? I have already tried to ground the tan wire at the pwr pack with temp sensors disconnected and no sound.

You're checking it correctly. I still vote for a bad horn.

OK, you're on the right track. Yes, if you go directly from the terminal on the horn to ground it should sound no matter what. Bad alarm horn.

The diode in the alarm circuit is between the VRO tank and the power pack. This to prevent the engine to go into SLOW at low oil level.
To test:
Pull the tan wire from prom the power pack.
No continuity between power pack and oil tank connector.

Finally got a new buzzer. $80 for a relay and a horn highway robbery. Tested temp switches as per manual and all is good. warning system is working as designed.
