89 Johson 40 HP Starter Wire Fuse

The fuse on the starter wire connected to my battery is burnt out. Is there a specific fuse that is required? I am currently starting the engine without the fuse and would like to replace it myself.

Can you read the amp rating on the old fuse?

No. It is actually broken and I spliced the wires together. So there actually is no fuse left.
