89 Mercury 25hp xd not getting gas

I have never had such a challenge with a carb. Its the type of carb that has the pull out primer instead of a choke. I have gone through it and cleaned it, put a new kit in it. And it still doesn't continue to run, I even put the fuel tank above the motor to see if the new fuel pump skin was not doing its job, no difference. Bulb is hard after pumping it. The motor fires up and runs great momentarily with the primer fuel then stops. Has 128 top and 126 bottom compression. I believe its an 89, model XD, 25hp 6458797. Any input on what else I can check would be appreciated. Thank you

Is the carb base gasket on correctly? Did you use the correct gaskets from the kit? Did you make sure the main Jet is clean? Is the low speed idle adjustment out about 1.5 turns?

Thanks flyingscott, main jet is clean, low speed idle is 1.5, gasket is the correct one, I even put the original gasket back on because it was in good shape just to see if it would change anything. Question, should gas seep out of the low speed adjustment hole if pumping the bulb and adjustment screw is removed? It's not seeping when I do this but just wanted to check if this is normal.

Make sure the base gasket is on correctly. It fits 2 ways and only one is correct you do not want it to cover any holes.

Went through carb again, it is very clean. Base gasket was correct. I wanted to see how much gas was in the bowl, removed it carefully and noticed the bowl float was compromised and over 1/2 full of gas. I'm getting another float and not sure if that would cause the problem I'm having of not getting gas, seems that that if anything would give u to much if the float wasn't rising correctly.

if you bought a repair kit for the complete carb it will have gaskets for different models. Did you use the correct gaskets? What happens if you pump the primer ball? If it runs on the primer the problem is in the carb. The primer bypasses the carb altogether. The fuel pump gets its pulse through the carb body from the intake.
