Re: 89 octane fuel

You didn't mention what engine we are talking about...

But...if you are currently running 87, or lower, and you are experiencing any detonation...then upping the octane can actually reduce your running temperatures.

If you are not seeing any detonation now, then upping the octane will not make any difference (except, maybe, in the wallet)!

Re: 89 octane fuel

You know for a 2 stroke motor, you should not run anything more than 87 octane because this gas has the least amount of additives and will not gum up your motor.
Even though these additives (tactrol, techroline and others), claim to clean your engine and this might be true with a 4 stroke motor but when you start to mix oil in the equation, the end result is a build up of gunk.
To further add insult to injury, higher octane gasolines actually have less energy in them because they are diluted by all the additives needed to raise the octane.

Higher octane = less power!
Octane rating does not relate to the energy content of the fuel. It is only a measure of the fuel's tendency to burn rather than explode.
