As much as I hate killing wildlife for no good reason, I'd have to say I'd have unloaded a few rounds into that thing without much hesitation if it were around my house.

I don't know about 89lbs either but its still one fat snake.
I do hope it didn't go to waste, they are pretty tasty when done up right.

i have 3 more,different ,sites that have been sent to me with the same pic from another forum i am a member of. i posted it there also.... i think yours out dates them ,but it seems this pic has been used multiple times with a few adjustments to location.

Arrgh, I was making an edited snake pic with a fat belly (chihuahua inside) but couldn't get it saved from the site I was playing with. Guess my "funny" wasn't too "funny"

I've probably seen a hundred Diamondbacks in my 35 years in Tucson, max size is around 3 to 3-1/2 feet. Ironically, when people I work with see a rattler it's inevitably a "six foot rattlesnake". Guess I'm just not looking in the right places. BTW, 89 pounds, even for an "Eight Foot" snake strains credulity to the breaking point.

I've caught rattle snakes in Montana when I was out there from 1981 to
1986...worked for bn railroad track department replacing rr ties and rail.
Did not see any Diamond Backs...too far north...but did catch some
prairie rattlers....one was 4ft 4inches long and the center of the body was
about the size of a regular rubic's cube...saw in one bar...they had
a 6 foot long rattle snake skin tacked to a board on display

the Rattlers common to the Arizona desert, and the West Coast in general, are generally smaller than the Eastern Diamondback Rattler, which is what the snake in the picture is.

the Eastern is known for getting to some very large sizes. when the ol' Croc Hunter, Steve Irwin was in America he tangled with a few and if memory serves me right the big one he found was around 8+ feet.

however just because it is big, that does not mean that it is more potentially dangerous. the Sidewinder common in deserts worldwide is much smaller,yet just as potentially dangerous. in truth, if one of those little guys get ya you are actually in more trouble than if an Eastern gets ya. simply because you are more likely to be far away from any medical help.

as long as you remember that the most dangerous snake is the one you are messing with, and give it room to move on, you will be just fine

While I do not mess with any rattle snakes , I do breed Pythons , I can tell you that the snake in the pic is probably 8 feet long once it is streched out , a snake can seem much smaller than it looks. The snake has a good girth to it and if it had just eaten and had an extra 10 pounds inside it might be in the 70 pound range but I do doubt it . Most Pythons are in the 12-14 foot range when they break the 100 pound mark and that is after a 8 pound meal . Thinking this snake is close to 60 lbs .. it looks like it just ate.

Why on earth would anyone breed snakes ??? Is there currently a shortage I am unaware of ? Seems to me they can do quite well by themselves if left alone...ahhh thats it,.... they are bred to be kept in captivity....NICE

Snakes don't bother me unless we both discover each other at the same time. I always wonder which one of us is more afraid.That split second till you identify the species...is rough.

The breeding of snakes acts as a way to preserve the species as well as develop new "morphs" with diffrent genetic patterns that become genetic traits . I have stopped breeding the large pythons due to cost but have a very healhy line of Ball Pythons , The black and gold snakes you see in most pet shops . Breeding can be very profitable if you hit the right combination . I have 2 males and 4 females that should give me 24 babys this year , If every combo hits for genetic traits and I am right about the mating mix I will be looking at about 12k for ivories , 6k for lavender pastels , 2k for spiders and 2k for blurry granites .... If everything fails and everything looks normal I am looking at 3k at best for all 24. The pic attached is a one of a kind Morph that from what I have heard a 30k offer was denied by the owner .

One last thought on a pet snake .. How many pets can hug you back ?

Nice snake Seon....I think I'd want more leg protection going after them..unless the snake is way out in a open area....a long pole like that helps...Looks like you are doing it the way I did...Used pvc tubing..7ft..
used a loop of lamp cord at one end of the pipe and ran heavy gauge
solid copper wire through the pipe and attached to the loop of lamp cord..with this...rap around objects to find the snake and try to get the snake in a stike pose...slip the noose of lamp cord around his..neck?,..
behind his head....he usually is looking at me and not the noose on the end of the pole...and at the back end of the pole pull the wire through and
bend the copper wire over when snake is secured in the noose tight against
the end of the pole......I missed a few snakes that slithered away instead of
getting in a strike pose....then I wished I had grabbing arms on the end of the pole...
Oh ya...looks like a really nice 50s Chevy next to you also

Did the same thing. Most of the results are that the picture is real but the description is nowhere near true.

Be much the same here. The pic is probably fine but the weight is out to lunch.
