Evening,
Got my new lower unit on and adjusted the shift cable per the combined instructions of many sources. However, on my lower shift cable in front of the barrel is a white plastic clip that is shown in the mercruiser manual in the photo below. It's called a "stop clip".
After adjusting to the 6" length after locking in the prop and getting everything back on the bracket, I can't seem to get the clip to fit in where it is explained. I can just get it in but after that I seem to lose a 1/4" of the 6" length that I adjusted for. Basically I worry that it will not fully engage in forward gear now. The photo shows the blade tip to be in the bottom horizontal position to be againts the brass barrel, but it will not touch it because of the bracket base.
What purpose is this plastic clip? If the 6" lenght is set, and then this clip blocks the throw of the barrel what good does it do?
Hopefully someone can shed some light please.
Thanks and have a great weekend!
TF
