Trying to reinstall the lower unit but I am getting hung up trying to align the shift rod. I was in neural when I removed the lower unit and I am pretty sure the offset was pointing to the right if you are standing behind the motor.

Does that sound correct?

Any tips on getting her to slide in?

The offset should point forward. You probably twisted it slightly when removing the leg. Only turn it the direction closest from where it is or you risk putting the linkage out of adjustment..

Well I got it back together. I think it rotated 1/4 turn during removal, and even though I had the offset pointing forward, I had to rotate it 1/4 turn to get it back in the hole in the lower cowel. Once I got it in that hole, I was able to rotate it back to the front.

Thanks.

Good news. Should have also mentioned there's a split rubber washer around the shift rod that could cause you trouble during installation - best to remove it and re-install after.
