Okay here goes. I have a 1989 Fazer 172. The floor and deck are starting to get soft and need replaced. I spoke with a dealer and he told me on some years they actually glassed the decking to the strigers for structural purposes. He was checking into my boat with the factory but has not gotten back to me. I want and need to replace the flooring in the near future. If anyone knows if it was glassed to the stringers or if it was glassed to the sides please let me know. I am going to try and do this project myself as it will cost a load of money to get it done and I want to change and update a few things to make the boat more user friendly.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. It is an aluminum hull so I am unsure of why it would have been glassed. Thanks again, Jim

Re: 89 Smokercraft Fazer 172, need help

I have a 2001 17.5 Stealth and I know someday I'll be doing a new deck and getting rid of the carpet at the same time.
Anyway I have a couple of deck access plates which I would think you would have as well and if you pulled those off I would think you'd be able to reach in there and tell.
Or did you get your answer already?
Good luck and I am interested in the outcome of your project.

I looked in the access plate area but of course it is the fish/ski model so it is covered in carpet underneath. I did start digging a little and the more I check the more I think it is not glassed. I will post more when I actually start the project. It will not be started until winter and more likey after archery and rifle season in PA. Thanks for the info. Jim

I have a 1991 Fazer, and I am tearing out the carpet to replace now. I have not pulled up any wood yet (except the large wood floor access panel to the gas tank), and I don't plan to. But I have not seeen any evidence so far of fiberglass.

Good luck with your project as this boat is well built and a pain to take apart:)
