Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

Very nice prep work on your boat!!!

1 1/2 qts seems like a LOT for a Light Coat of Undercoater.

I say this because I have a 15 ft Fiberglass boat that I will be painting with Pettit Undercoater and Pettit EasyPoxy in about 6 weeks and I was under the impression that 1 qt. would be enough to put on two coats of primer. I GUESS I was mistaken based on what I am seeing with your application. Looks like I better order another qt of Undercoater!!!

I'm just sayin...:D

Yo, NB! Lookin' good. Man, seeing those shots of the foam and everything sure brings back some painful memories ;) as with your other project, you're taking it to the nth degree - as you know, I've got a soft spot in my heart for Starcraft center consoles. Launching mine tonight after work! I saw earlier in your thread that you were concerned with the size of your console. Mine is pretty tall - and I love it. You can stand up and still have full protection of the windshield - a real game changer.

I'm on the fence about putting a T-top on. I'm a little concerned that it will impede casting from the stern. On the other hand, it would be nice to have some protection from the sun, extra rod holders, and storage.

Anyhow, just checking in. She's looking great!

Woodonglass, it is a 21 footer. That's 6 feet longer, and I'm sure wider and also higher. Plus the bottom was bare aluminum. The ZC is kinda rough surfaced on the aluminum boats and I'm sure it is probably eating more undercoater. Additionally, the whole reasoning behind the undercoater is so you can build up a little and sand out the rough areas. You just may have enough for your application.

Matt, where in the H@#$ have you been? I've been waiting for the Starmada's first CC restorer to check in and give me some pointers:D I'm gettin no help at all from Kev these days:p

I ran out of primer and the new order won't be here till Monday. Guess I'll just take the LL to the lake:D

duuuude, my sincerest apologies. Here are some dimensions for you (I'm 99% sure that our hulls are identical). My console is 28" wide, 48" tall (dictated by dimensions of a full sheet of ply and using it to its maximum potential). With the windshield, it's 62", which offers plenty of protection from spray @ standing height. There's 19" between the bottom sides of the console and sidewalls of the hull - plenty for getting around and just perfect for bracing yourself if you're fighting a fish amidships. My bench is 30" wide (dictated by the cushions I found for the project). 31" to the top of the cushions. It all seems to fit just fine. Let me just say..... I love this boat. I have received more compliments at the ramp than I can recount here. It's a great fishing platform. I can't wait to see how yours turns out!!!

NB You seem to have a nitch for this. why don't you try fliping a couple of boats they you rebuild for a profit and see what happens. We can then call u flipper.........................:) So are you holding off on this rebuild and just building the other cc? Or are you doing 2 at the same time?

SNS, I don't think there's any way I could make a profit on one of these boats. Especially with me being as old and slow as I am:D

Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

NB I bet if you listed your LL up it would fetch a pritty pennie! And if you build the 22 cc islander with twin outboards id be willing to pay some good dime for it! And im just 1 guy! I bet there is more people like me out there. If a new 21 cc is selling for big bucks I bet you can get 75% of what a new one is selling for if done right and with new equipment as far as outboards gauges controls etc..... And we all know you know how to do it right so... You should think about it! Also if it did turn a dime. You could just command a crew and make sure its done right. You seem to have a nice location!

Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

SNS, for what it's worth, it seems as if folks tend to stay clear of refurbished boats. There's a guy who used to frequent one of the other boards from PA who's been trying to sell a cuddy to cc conversion on cl for close to a year now. I think the last time I saw it listed, he was down around 3500. The boat is worth way more than that but folks just aren't biting.

There's another full 22 foot offshore type Starcraft Not the skinny, low 21 footer, with an outboard on cl that's been redone inside and out and the guy can't get 5K for it.

I guess the problem is times are tight and you just never know what the po did during his rebuild.

I'm playing with these boats as a hobby and to have the boat set up the way I want it. I could never get what I have into it back out by trying to sell.

Now, go get your boat out of the water, it's gonna be a tad breezy on LI this weekend:eek:

LOL! Yea I took her out today! I guess your right! But here on L.I people have some big dime and for a nice 21 to 26 with outboards on them people are willing to spend. People tend to stay away from inboards and I/Os these days! Best time to start selling is over the winter when people are online alot more do to the cold and bordem. Ill see how it goes for me. I just like rebuilding them as a hobby as well. What I really hate is seeing a aluminum boat go to the scrap yard or sit in ruin. So I try to save them and bring some life to them again. In The past I had fetched some good money for my rebuilds! Im not doing it for the money. Im Doing it to save a tiny...Hope it will go smooth with my 21 flip! But im curious to see how this 21 turns out!

I like the project read intire thread it's proably better than new.
is the project finished?

?1.the floor wood you removed appeared like regular plywood.
is it in fact regular or marene plywood?

?2.what did you replace the foam w/? is it mandatory to replace foam?

?3. how involved would a full transome be on this boat like would the orginal
transome be completely removed? or could the orginale transome be extended
then use a motor braket?

?4.are you using the 150HP Suzski? what is top speed?

?5. the fuel line from the tank to motor is it rubber or metal? and is it inside that black tube?

Thanks for sharing the knowlegde and taking the time for images.

Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

Well I got the gluvit in yesterday and covered the boat with poly so all the whatever you call those things falling off the oak trees wouldn't get in it over night. By late afternoon today it was set up very well so........

I rigged the John Deere to the bow eye and ran an Ibolt thru the drain hole with some bolts and big washers and hooked the engine hoist to the stern.

We lifted her up and did the twist and now she's flipped and ready for some bottom work. Here's a couple shots of the process.

Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

yes Sir I said tiller. I browsed a little seams like Evinrude makes a 60HP tiller.I would prefer like a 90HP.

I can't remember whose walleye tournament boat it was but I have seen a 200 horse Evinrude tiller, That was before Mercury marine bought out Tim Mertan's "Power Tiller" system making it a proprietary thing to Mercury,..

I have run both a Yarcraft and a Ranger tiller with 150 Yamaha's and those were fun,...

There are quite a few Mercury tillers in the 200 to 250 range,...
