I am replacing all the wood in a 89 Sunray I/O 185 bowrider. I would never have attempted this without being inspired by the help and advice provided through this blog.
I have the floor, foam, engine outdrive and transom wood removed. I have the transom plywood fabricated, ready to go in. At this point I have a few questions.
1. What adhesive would you recommend to attach the transom wood to the remaining transom glass. I will be covering it in polyester and glass, is polyester resin ok?
2. The (shelf) area above the transom is unreachable to remove the gelcoat. Would glass and poly adhere to the gelcoat? I can sand it by hand, but thats about it. I would like to overlap about 4in.
3. I have some minor dry rot in the remaining floor that extends under the open bow structure. I cannot replace this without removing the cap. I am considering using GitRot on these areas, what is your opinion?

I have lots of pics, I will post them as I go.
Again, thank you all for your posts and advice.

Honest opinion......... I would consider removing the cap since you are this far into it.

I really do not know many people who have used GitRot and I will not comment on the results..........

The shelf above the transom??? I think you will be safe tabbing to it since the majority of the stress in lower.

Re: 89' Sunray I/O Rebuild

Ok, looking through several posts, the guys are using PL adhesive to bond and fillet seal everything. This stuff is made for concrete, but appears to be an excellent adhesive for wood and fiberglass. There is PL Sealant and PL Adhesive. The adhesive tends to bubble up when applied. The sealant doesn't bubble up, and, from what I have read, works as an excellent adhesive. working time about 30 minutes. www.simplicityboats.com/pl_premium. has tests done using this stuff, quite impressive.
PL is sold at most hardware stores, Lowe's or Home Depot
I'll give it a try.
