Hi all. The weekend past I was pulling around the kids (light kids) in a tube with the 14' aluminum/9.5 Evinrude. I did this hard for a couple of hours hard till the last boy (a bigger boy) when I noticed a steamy smoke coming from it and it bogged out on me. First I said to myself, "oh oh, she seized up and I ruined the engine". I tried it again with the cap off and barely got it going till it cut out on me again. I let it rest for a minute or two and started it up (with difficulty) to run it back to shore (short didtance) very slowly. It felt like it was seizing up as it couldn't get full speed and I had to open it up all the way to get it started. This outbooard always ran excellent with one pull to start it.
Did I over heat it and it just needed a rest?
Did I ruin something inside?
It almost seems like it needed a good rest and a lube flush. Is a lube flush possible for an outboard?
Please help as I will take it out this weekend to see if it will run again but would like to service it somehow myself.
Thanks, Chris from Pickering ON
