Hi thanks in advance for any replies, I have a late 60 early 70,s 9.5 evinrude that was given to me,couple minor problems otherwise a sound unit. How do you change the fuel connector seems to be built in. secondly what would the proper compression be for this unit. Happy Boating

Re: 9.5 evinrude

The motors were always a little loose in the bores, but had three rings each; any reading above 60 PSI is workable as long as they read within +/-10% of each other. One member here got a reading of 50 PSI recently but was able to get above 60 PSI with a de-carbon treatment.

Are you referring to the fuel connector where you connect the fuel line at the outside of the lower cover?

Haven't had mine off so I can't give you much help. Go to this link and look at the part diagrams for the unit. Once you find it you can keep blowing it up till your happy with the size. It does (from the parts diagram) look a little confusing but I'm sure you'll get it, There are two bolts that have to come out for sure, maybe more. Have fun. Rick.

The connector is held in place by a single screw attached from inside the cowl. I believe that you have to remove the tiller handle Bracket and Fuel Connector Assembly to work on it.

I had 3 of them, all in different condition and all had compressioon between 60 and 70 psi. The only thing I don't like about them is there is no way to convert to electric start.
