I don't know if I'm missing a piece or not. When my motor is in the locked down position for running, I have to reach down under the mounting bracket and try to pull the arm down to release it in order to raise the motor. Is there supposed to be a handle or some sort of mechanism that makes it easier to release?

Standfas,

The lock down feature is attached to the gear shift. It locks the tilt when the engine is in reverse, and it should release when the gear selecter is in neutral or forward. You will see a stainless wire running near the carry handle that attaches to the hooks . There is a provision for adjustment, look inside the cowling near the gear shift detent mechanism.

There is a nut that will allow for some adjustment.

TE

Sure thing..

Those are great little engines. I have a 1969 Evinrude that runs great and used to have a 1966 Evinrude.

Take care
