Ok, IF you were to review the parts breakdown you will see the in addition to the stainless "keeper" that slips over the end of the tube, there is also an o-ring to seal the junction of the tube at the powerhead base. If you "just" reinstall the tube from the bottom (the "incorrect" way), the position of the o-ring not being install'd comes into play (overheating??). The proper way is to seperate the exhust hsg from the powerhead and install the tube from the top down.

Re: 9.5 Johnson: Copper Water Tube Troubles

I've already got engine in pieces, and have the parts on order with the exception of the NLA piece.

Now that I've got it all apart, I can tell you that I never would have found the hole to put the tube in without seperating the housing like PV said. Also, the stainless retainer ring on there had acutally slipped through the crack and fallen out onto the ground. There is all kinds of corrosion at that joint, so it's good that I'm getting a chance to flush the water jacket.

Thanks to the guys offering to find that part for me. I'm going to the local outboard graveyard tomorrow and if they don't have it I will be emailing you.

The help on this board is exceptional. I really appreciate the input. I'll be sure to let you know how reassembly goes, or more likely, ask where the extra parts go and if I really really need them :)
