I have a 9.5 Johnson I think it's about a 66. The model number is missing and the S/N J 04120, don't look write to me. There is a number J3402126 stamped on top of the motor. Anyone have an idea of the year?

Willocat - It's impossible to say for certain with only a serial number, but both those serial numbers seems grouped with outboards built in 1971.

Better yet, check the catalogs here and find which ones look like yours. Examine your engine and make sure it hasn't been repainted first! I'm pretty certain 1971 would have been black.

If I go by the pictures, I would guess it's a 68. Would the 66 to 71 use the same parts? they all kind of look the same.

My book indicates an internal change in '69 (minor piston/bore spec change). I expect many parts would be the same though. There's a few members that own several 9.5hps, hopefully they'll come along and fill you in.

impeller,termostat,cylinderhead-gasket and many, many other parts are the same on every 9,5 models (1964-1973). only difference on my 68and 73 is the pistons and controlpanel.
