Does anyone know if there were internal changes to the carb when the 9.5 model was updated from 4 reed valves to 2? I'm rebuilding a 2 reed valve power head and I've got both a newer and older carb to play with. I think I see some damage on the low speed needle which makes the newer one undesirable to use, also low speed needles are not compatible between the two.

I want to use my older one but I think they must've changed orifice sizes to compensate from going to a more restrictive 2 valve setup? The high speed orifice on the newer one looks slightly larger although it could be an optical illusion. I also tried blowing through the high speed venturi tubes and the newer one is much easier to blow through, is this by design or is my old one just clogged?

You obviously found at least a couple of differences. However, as far as I know the two carburetors should swap out if you use the whole thing and do not go mixing parts. Orifice plug sizes are stamped with their sizes in thousandths. I don't know the answer to the venturi tube question, but again, use the whole thing and you should be ok.

Ok that's good to know, both orifices were stamped 48 so then maybe the venturi tubes are clogged. I'll use the newer one, I guess I can live with crappy idle for better WOT.
Thanks.
