Re: 9.6 Seaking- how can I tell if it's pumping water?
I don't know the year and mfg of your motor, and maybe Alcan was able to tell you what to look for (probably no tell-tale, and most exhaust water comes out the prop -- if through hub exhaust -- or at the outlet just under the cavitation/ventilation plate and just above the prop). There would be a pretty good spray of water coming out of the exhaust port on the rear leg of the motor, and that might be the only visible spot. If the motor is properly cooled, you should be able to hold your fingers on it (back or top of the head) for two or three (four?) seconds without pulling away. It it's really hot to the touch, it is probably not getting enough water circulation. Does the motor run OK? It won't run well if it is overheating. If you put your hand in back of the exhaust port on the leg, you should get wet -- should feel warm water (not hot enough to burn you).

But be careful using your hands as temperature gauges. A shop can test the temperature using a temp stick that melts at a set point. If you can't get comfortable testing it yourself, you might end up have a shop check it out.
