HERE IS THE INFO FOR MY MOTOR:
9.8 MOTOR
SN #4997779
YEAR? UNKNOWN

I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS MOTOR FOR $500, WAS THAT A FAIR PRICE? THE GUY TOLD ME IT NEEDED A TUNE UP. AFTER STARTING THE MOTOR AND RUNNING IT FOR ABOUT 10MINUTES IN DIE, I STARTED IT AGAIN AND ENGAGED IT IN DRIVE AND IT WENT DEAD AGAIN, AFTER THAT TIME IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. WHAT DO YOU THINK I DID WRONG. THE FUEL BULB WAS VERY FIRM. WATER WAS COMING OUT OF THE PORT AND IT HAD VERY GOOD COMPRESSION. IT DID NOT COME WITH A OWNERS MANUAL SO I A SEEKING ONE OF THEM ALSO. ANY SUGGESTION WOULD BE HELPFUL. THANKS

Re: 9.8 MERCURY 110

I would recommend getting a manual for it and rebuilding the carburetor.

Re: 9.8 MERCURY 110

Here goes...

General Information:

This model was painted all "Phantom Black."
The serial number was on the instruction plate on the front of the swivel bracket.
Serial numbers 4605112 thru 4839253 are 1977 models.
Serial numbers 4839254 thru 5206549 are 1978 models.
Serial numbers 5206550 thru 5541279 are 1979 models.
This model was offered in both Short and Long Shaft versions, and with & without electric starting.

So I guess your model number puts you in 1978. It is the model 110. And I don't know what other information I can give you. Ask and you shall receive...LOL!

Good night!

the prop does not have a shear pin, it has a rubber hub that gives with sufficient impact.
