9.8hp flush screw question

It's easy to use a bucket of water to flush this engine but can you flush it by spraying into the "flush" hole on starboard side under power head, while not running? It sure seems to do a good job. I get water out of telltale, and exhaust and I assume this is why it's labeled "flush" (duh) but I don't know if this port may be an "output" or just a poor excuse for a proper flush technique.

My shop manual says nothing and I don't have an owners manual.

A '72 owners manual says you can flush at this flush plug using a special fitting to attach to a garden hose. Garden water valve should be partially open to prevent overpressure and do not operate outboard while flushing in this manner. (I usually can not get the plug to unscrew, dang thing is corroded!). Thanks. I've got a brass tapered stream nozzle that works well but I have to hold it in place. I made a deeper slot in the head of the screw and I use a little anti-seize on it. As long as I know it's a proper method of flushing the engine, I'll do it this way. It sure is a lot easier.
