I need to get the shop manuel for my 2005 9.8 4 ST, its on order but maybe someone can steer me in the right direction untill it gets here.. When I squeeze the bulb, gas shoots out of a long narrow slit on top of the carburator, and the filter wont fill. Always been a great running, one pull start every time motor and all of a sudden, this. Not much of a mechanic, and dont want to touch anything untill the manuel gets here but any suggestions sure will be appreciated Thanks Ralph

The needle valve in the carb is not seating, which is allowing fuel to overflow the carb. Could be a piece of debris jamming it, float may be distorted, or may need a new needle. You can play it safe by ordering a Carburetor repair kit. Kit includes gaskets, float & needle valve. Fits: 8hp & 9.8hp 4-stroke models. Part# 3V1871220M. $34.75, available from any dealer, including me.

how hard is it to rebuild that carb and how do I reach you??

I confirmed with Tohatsu America about your jetting as well: There is a high-altitude jet set available for over 6,000 ft. (but that will likely be too lean at 4,000). In addition, there is an "intermediate" jet set that is designed to run at 5,000 ft. So, if the motor has been running too rich at 7,000 (black plugs), I can include the "intermediate" jets which should be a "happy medium" for your operation at both 4,000 and 7,000.

I will be in the office tomorrow, and will confirm pricing and availability for the balance of your parts. Meantime, check to see whether your motor was running OK, of if it was too rich (before the needle stuck open).
