9.9 -4 stroke Merc. sunk

I flipped and sank a 12 boat with a 9.9- 4 stroke ser # 0r160609. I got the boat to shore with some help and have the motor on a stand. I pulled the dip stick ( not me - the one on the motor) and water and oil drained out. I pulled the gas line tword the back of the engine and drained as much gas as I could. I had no tools to speak of so I have to go out in a few days to clean it up. What is the proccedure?

Hmmmm... That's kind of a tough one. Having sunk the engine, there's no telling the extent to which the water permeated the engine. This time it may be worth taking it to a shop for a clean-up and possible rebuild of some parts. The last thing you want is to get water into the fuel system to the point it's getting into the cylinders and such. A pro mechanic at a shop would be able to strip it down and dry it all out and ensure it's gonna come back up clean and dry.

If you still wanna venture into this yourself, I'd get a manual first. Many boating stores carry them on the shelf and you can order them from Amazon. Once you have it, read through the procedures you want to undertake and let the manual guide you as far as what tools you may need.

Do you have insurance on the boat? Is this something you can claim? Also worth a shot...

Comercial insurance so big deductable. I am downloading the manual and i will take a look at it.

cant download file rapidshare says to many people on and not enough band width so I am not sure where I go from here guess I will have to wait till it loads
