9.9 convertion from short to long shaft(83y)

hi.i'm trying to convert my 9.9.
i have lon drive shaft and 5" extension.i want to use my lower unit, but i dont kwow how to take out my short sfit rod from lower unit to place in shift rod for long shaft.Or maybe i do need a new lower unit with mounted in longer shift rod?
i read LeRoy wisner ramblings but i didnt find clear mention in it.

What year is your engine?

its Jo 9.9 and the year is 83

yea i know but how to take out short shift rod to put the new longer one, or there is some extension? , but its not mention about it on the drawing.

On older engines they used a 5" extension on the shift shaft because it was a straight rod. Your engine has a shift shaft that is angled, because of the angle I beleave you will have to replace the shift shaft to keep the angle correct.
I am sure someone with more knowledge will come along and give some expert advice.
