Get what is called a remote control switch from your local marine dealer! It will have directions on how to install.

marina told me had to have some solinoid, and 250 dollars, seems if already pushbutton on motor, could just use a keyed switch on console

its my cousins pontoon and funny thing is mine is few years newer same motor but has keyswitch, motors look identical under hood, only his is push button on engine, he wants a keyswitch, both have a starter clearly, seems he would need a solinoid and keyswitch, maybe thats what the remote does>?

The switch will energize the solenoid on the engine. shouldn't need a second one. 20 USD. would be close i think.

Re: 9.9 evinrude elec start

just alil confused as ive heard that the pushbutton start on engine has solinoid and push button made together, where keyed ones have seperate solinoid, i was thinking just run a new keyswitch wires to where the push button is on engine?

Re: 9.9 evinrude elec start

The push button should be hooked to the starter solenoid. if you follow the main wire from the starter, it should connect to the solenoid. the small wire should be the the wire that tells the solenoid to energize.

Yup that should do it. be sure to disconnect the the battery before you go messing around in there. If you can get a jumper wire from the hot side of the battery and just touch the (s) it should make the it start.

That old a motor does not use a selinoid, but a direct inline contacter for the starter button. The 1993 & newer use a selinoid. If you wire it to a console using the original push button start, you need at least #10 wire.

Or install a separate selinoid.

As the Machinist said a simple push button will work. You can buy a 60 amp starter button from NAPA or Autozone or any parts store that comes with a rubber screw on cover for marine use. I have one on my boat for years and all I did was run one positive wire from the battery to the switch and then run another wire from the switch to the big pole on the starter itself. Your battery is already hooked to the motor on the negitive side. Hope this makes sense.

Re: 9.9 evinrude elec start

Well then just substitute the pushbutton switch with a keyswitch and run the wire from the bat and the otherwire to the "s" on the switch and then to the starter motor. Works the same way.
