Relax, you did ok. Your Force motor is older technology, but from my experience, the smaller ones do not have the problems that have given the name a bad reputation.

If you had an 80's 40, 50, 85 hp etc, then you could be in for troubles.

Like any motor, it needs a bit of care. A new water impeller, new fuel, new plugs, change the lower unit lube, decarbon the motor, all the normal stuff.

Will it have more power? Yes, if it is running properly. You had an old tired motor, probably only producing 5 hp. Now you have a motor that will produce 80% more power. Horsepower is horsepower.

That particular motor is very good. The difference between it and the 15 HP is the carb only. It is the largest displacement of that class and was tested a few years ago as the FASTEST 9.9 and 15 HP. Earlier models had brazed gear to the lower clutch dogs that would come loose, but the model I believe you have that problem has been resolved. Very simple motor with no points but the carb is contankerous to dried up fuel. Small screen filter on the inlet side of the fuel pump sometimes catches crud and starves the engine because of its small size(smart idea to run auxiliry inline filter with this motor) The 7 1/2 HP version of this motor is also identicle except for carb and induction plates, it to can be converted to strong 15 HP. My son's 15 HP pushes his 12' v-hull 25 MPH with me (225 lbs) him (150lbs) battery, trolling motor, gear and ice chest. 28 MPH me alone....

Ahoy!! I have the same motor except mine says sears gamefisher on it and I love it!It is a little larger and heavier and noisier than most 9.9s,but it is pretty much trouble free.We run a nylon prop on a 10ft zodiac and that sucker flies. It is also harder to pull start than most motors.Make sure to pull the plugs out to crank it before you start for the first time after being fogged out for winter. This will get the extra fogging oil out.If you dont,it may not crank.Depends on how much use is on the motor.cc

well i,ve had a chance to take mine out for a spin and i.m pretty happy with it.it sounds great and feels nice and tight.i took a fairly new 8 horse mariner out for a test drive last year on my same boat and i have to say that the 8 mariner pushed my boat about the same.my new force must be rated at the flywheel ...not the prop.anyways i love it so far and only time wil tell.
