Re: 9.9 Force
First off, you stole it....Hey, I'll trade ya a merc 7.5HP for it (I need a little more onions on my 1953Lonestar)...I love that ol boat.
But you heard right on both counts. The design is basicly a Chrysler design. US Marine changed the namebrand and paint colors when they purchased Chryler's O/B division. Merc got involved in an effort to re-design them,to keep ahead of increasing emissions standards, but gave up when it became clear that the entire line had to be completely re-designed to meet Y2K standards.
So they dropped them,as it was cost preventive. They sold cheaper than most motors when new,but are reliable. The designs are sturdy,time-tested,but stinky.
You'll notice this when you fire that puppy up....It'll smoke perfusely when cold.
Parts availability is not much of an issue...YET. They can still be found under Merc's "Quicksilver" tradename.

------------------
the Early bird get's the worm...So, he don't have to stop for bait.
