9.9 Honda Carb Cleaning?

Gents,

I've got a Honda 9.9 4 stroke which won't idle. It will start and run at high rpms with the choke fully engaged. But, when I push in the choke, it dies.

After searching the archive here, I believe it's a dirty carb problem. I took it apart and cleaned out a bunch of jelly looking goop in the float bowl. That didn't help the problem though.

So I assume it's dirty down deeper in the carb. I've got it off, and in my garage, and plan on cleaning it better. Any thoughts or tips on how to clean it out?

Thanks

Just use a can of spray carb cleaner and make sure all the small opening are clear by spraying the cleaner through them or buy something to soak it, but not a lot to one of those little carbs.

That carb will need to come all the way apart, including the metering jets ,lift tube and pilot jet if you are pre EPA compliant.Pay particular attention to that lift tube and inspect for tiny cracks as you are cleaning it with a quality aresol carb cleaner. You will need the carb o ring kit 16010 zv4 000. Verify that # with your dealer as that is coming off the top of my head.Do not use carb dip or you will destroy this carb.
